COLOURS....

Red is flickering flames; crackling, rising and deadly.

Red is iron-tinged blood, trickling and dripping into a pool.

Red is a delicate tulip; its bright, smooth petals are beautiful.

Red is rosy cheeks; when you dangle upside down!

Red is ripe strawberries; smelling fresh in the shop.

Yellow is a delicate butterfly; fluttering gracefully from flower to flower.

Yellow is a tall sunflower; swaying in the breeze.

Yellow is a fluffy feathered duckling; bobbing on the pond.

Yellow is the hot, sparkly sand; running silkily between your toes.

Yellow is the scorching sun; its fiery rays burning.

Green is a long legged, cold-blooded Grasshopper jumping and bouncing from leaf to leaf.

Green is a big eyed web footed frog flying like a parachute to its lily pad.

Green is a furry spiky Caterpillar eating leaves before it turns into a beautiful Butterfly.

Green is a fierce and strong Crocodile bathing in the sun before it searches for its prey with its big sharp teeth and claws.

Green is a long smooth scaly snake slithering through the soft grass.

Red is the blazing fire spreading fiercely through the trees.

Red is the cheeky stealing nut squirrel, jumping fearlessly from tree to tree.

Red is the silky petals of the spiky rose, facing the scorching sun.

Red is the seedy strawberries sprouting from the leaves, growing nice and plump in the field.

Red is the smudgy sun setting, floating smoothly down onto the horizon.

CLOUDS

by Charray

Today I was observing the midday sky, armed with my cloud collector's handbook and camera.  I took a picture of the clouds, then searched through my cloud book to see what it was.  At first I thought it was an altostratus, but then realised it was in fact a stratocumulus.

Stratocumulus is a very common cloud, low in the sky.  I saw strong evidence of convection activity.  The dark area is ascending air (which means the air rises) and the clear area is descending air (which means the air is going down).

TELEPHONES

by Christian

When you speak into the telephone sound waves of your voice go into it.  A microphone inside changes the sound into patterns and small electric currents called signals  travel to a telephone network.  When people telephone you signals come from the network to the earpiece of the phone.  A metal component inside the earpiece vibrates to produce the sound that enters you ear.

"Well done, Christian, an excellent scientific explanation!"

LIFE IN THE RAINFOREST

Once upon a time there lived a prince called Mr Fact.  He lived in a waterfall in the Amazon rainforest, hunted animals from his tree-house and caught them for his dinner.

One day he saw a man with a rifle and the prince shot him in one hit.  He then saw a shark swimming close by in the river near the waterfall.  BANG! The shark swam away at the sound of the gun firing.

A month later the shark came back and the prince wrestled with it in the water.  They rolled over and over and the prince killed the shark.  After that the prince lived a happy and peaceful life.

Snow, snow: falling happily,

far, far, everywhere you see.

Snowman, snowman, with a carrot nose,

made from ice off the garden hose!

Snowball, snowball, throw them at your friends!

Lots of water dripping

                            out

                               the

                                 gutter.....

IN MY WINDOW

by Rose and Georgia

Snow is falling all around us;

Now we build a snowman.

Oh, it's really fun!

We are throwing snowballs.

Flaking icicles shimmering around us;

All the time we are playing.

Loving the snow, freezing cold;

Lots of children in the snow.

A MYSTERY

by Erin

One night I heard a noise - it sounded like rain, but it was not even cloudy.  It was a mystery.  I went out to investigate!  Do you know why is raining?  I looked everywhere!  There were no clues.  I looked in the house as well.  I only did not look in the living room.  It was very dark, so I got a torch.  I then got a key and opened the door.  A creaking noise started, but it was just the creaking of the floorboards.  I opened the door, but when I got to the pavement the noise stopped!

Then I remembered that I hadn't looked in the living room.  So, I went back inside and closed the door.  I went past the creaking floorboards, past the kitchen and went into the living room. Well, there was my little brother playing with a rain stick!

A STRANGE SOUND

by Oliver

Once in the night, in a house, someone got woken up by a horrible noise.  His name is Time.  Tim crept down the stairs and crept out of the house.  He was now in the pitch black.  Tim could still hear the horrible noise, but instead of finding where the sound was coming from he bumped into a girl wearing a T-shirt from a shop called Gap. (I new it was from Gap because it had a big GAP printed on the front).  Time had always wanted one of those Gap T-shirts.

"What is your name, Time said, but then he saw her face...

A BOOK REVIEW

by Amelie

Why Dogs Chase Cats, by Bob Hartman.

This book is called Why Dogs Chase Cats.  It isn't about why dogs chase cats and I don't know why it is called that.  It is about poems.  I have read two of the poems so far.  One was about a mouse that skittered left and then skittered right.  Then he felt something holding his tail.  That something was a lion.  The lion was going to eat the mouse, but the mouse got away.  Then a hunter got the lion.  The lion wanted someone to help him.  The mouse came.  "I will help you only if you don't catch me," the mouse said.  The lion agreed and then the mouse got him out.  Then they became best friends.

WRITING IN PARAGRAPHS

by Eleanor

One day a girl heard a very spooky noise.  It was a very strange noise...(she was very scared).  She crept downstairs.  She was shivering so much that the floorboards kept creaking.

She thought that a burglar had come in, because there was a loud smashing noise!

Her name is Lily.  She is nine years old.  Her favourite colour is purple and her favourite pet is a hamster.  She doesn't like dark places and hates spiders.

Then, at the last moment, she was just about to open the door to the front room when she saw a shadow - a very dark one!

MY SCHOOL

by Hattie

My school is called Elmstead Primary School and it has a Nursery too.  There bare seven classes in the school and I am in Class 3.  The Headteacher is called Mr Middleditch and when you hurt yourself you go to the office and that is where you will find a sick bed, and next to it is Mr Middleditch's office.

In the Infants you have three play times and in the Juniors you have two playtimes.  There is a hall at the heart of the school and the classrooms and the office surround the hall.  There is a music room and I have my extension group in there on Friday mornings.  Our uniform is dark blue tops, with light blue shirts and black bottoms.  Girls can wear cardigans, jumpers and shorts.
