WOODLAND TRUST VISIT - OCTOBER, 2009.

by Year 4.

The Class Version:

On Wednesday, 21st October, 2009, Year 4 from Elmstead Primary School went to the Woodland Trust site on the edge of the village.  We went by coach; it was very bumpy and it was pouring with rain.  We got very, very wet!  The people showed us round there.  We had a very long rainy walk to the trees, then we got into partners and we planted some trees, giving them each a different name.  We went there to make a new habitat and to attract animals that are hard to get a close view of.

Then, we went into the woods and found a special 'memory stick,' then we walked back to the coach.  The memory sticks were put on display in the classrooms.

The Tree Version:

On Wednesday, 21st October, 2009, I saw children approaching in a coach.  They looked like they didn't like nature much.  I thought they were going to kill me.  They came closer, giggling and whispering to each other.  When they came even closer, I heard them talking about planting me, not killing me.  I was over-joyed.

Soon, they came towards me with these huge shovels.  Maybe they were lying about the planting; maybe they would kill me.  Oh no!  Suddenly, they lifted me up and put me in the ground. I was lucky, I was safe.  After that they started dancing about with me... weird!  Then they put a cover around me.  I was safe from rabbits, hares and deer.  Finally, they named me Robbie.  Did they have to name me...?  Weird.

WOODLAND TRUST REPORT

by Year 4

It was Wednesday, 21st October and a tree was in a plastic bag.  The tree was about one year old and it was with three other trees.  We named the trees Bobby, Max and Jackie.  The three trees were planted in a big field with lots of other types of trees.  There were silver birch, oak and horse chestnut, to name just three. The trees felt really happy  once they were planted and the one tree that didn't get planted was very sad.  So, it decided to wait for the Year 4s to leave and then the Year 5s would come.  For some strange reason everyone was wearing big blue hats.

All the trees were in big fields, even the tree that hadn't been planted yet.  There were big trees and little ones of all shapes and sizes.  You wouldn't believe it.  The Year 5s came after a while and they planted every tree left!  They were very satisfied so they went into a very, very old wood!  They made memory sticks and found a giant oak tree.  Both classes did this, although Year 5 got a lot wetter, because the rain was heavier in the afternoon.
