CHILDREN'S SURVEY - SEPTEMBER, 2009
This survey was put together by a small group of parents, including a parent governor. Instead of the school
posing the questions, we thought it would be interesting to look at the findings of a survey, structured from
the parents' point of view. Many thanks for your contributions! Here are the findings, with 120 children having
returned their replies, from Years 2 - 6:

- I can't always get onto my E-Folio.
- Do you have to use E-Folio once a week?
- The survey is a good idea.
- Could Stage 3 of the Adventure Playground be finished before Year 6 leave?
- The school toilets need air freshners; they smell and people don't flush. There are also spiders in there.
- For lunch could we have more choice and food?
- I would like 'Lord of the Rings' books.
- Could I have sandwiches at lunchtime as well as a hot dinner?
- I don't always get praised for my work.
- I like everything, basically.
- I'm fine at school, so don't worry."

ELMSTEAD PRIMARY SCHOOL
PARENT/CARER SURVEY - SEPTEMBER, 2009
Parent/carers kindly took the time to complete the following survey, which was put together by a small group of parents, including a parent governor. Instead of the school posing the questions, we thought it would be interesting to look at the findings of a survey, structured from the parent/carer point of view. Thirty seven families, representing 23% of the school population, returned the survey forms. Not all questions were given a tick, hence not all questions add up to thirty seven:
|
Please score 5 for the most positive response and 1 for the least positive, with any comments added at the end. For some questions - eg No. 10 - a negative answer is a preferred outcome.

Please add any comments here:
- "I am generally happy with the school and so is my child. The only real issue I have is the school dinners - not enough is cooked...
- I am extremely pleased with almost all aspects of the school. Any concerns I voice are dealt with quickly and appropriately. The quality of education is excellent.
- My child loves Elmstead Primary School. Occasionally she had a problem with another child. She loves the school dinners, but as she gets older she has commented that the portions are not big enough and she says that sometimes by the time she gets her dinner the food is cold.
- There seem to be classes for those pupils who are achieving well and above average in class, but there appears to be none for those who struggle. If there are, there is no information to parents available.
- I have put a negative tick here (parking - Q19) due to the selfish and inconsiderate attitude of some parents. I do not feel the school is to blame. It is the ignorant attitude of the repeat offenders causing the parking problems. Naming and shaming these offenders on the school website would perhaps have a positive effect...
- My child would like more play equipment in the Junior Playground, especially more hoops.
- Limited parking facilities, should be encouraged to walk to school if possible.
- When children are ill the school is too quick to get them away from school premises.
- We feel our son is doing extremely well at Elmstead Primary School... So far we haven't had a day when he hasn't wanted to go to school. He is extremely happy there which is a great worry off our minds. Our only concern would be the parking and sometimes dangerous driving around the school in the mornings and afternoons. As pedestrians we feel it is only a matter of time before someone gets injured through someone's irresponsible driving.
- It is only a few parents who think they can park anywhere. What is more concerning is the speed of some cars around the school and neighbouring roads. Some cars even mount the pavement in Holly Way; by the residents' private parking area... Also to note is that the Colne Community School bus drops off on the corner of Harvest Way. This causes a terrible traffic jam every day, at 15.15 - 15.30.
- Water bottles should be on the desk (not just Key Stage 2) in front of the children to rehydrate, especially in the Summer months.
- Mixed feelings regarding homework policy. Some is relevant and enjoyable, sometimes it is set for the sake of it, and becomes a source of stress at home.
- How are the results of the questionnaire used to improve/change policies within the school? Are parents informed directly of any changes as a result of the questionnaire?
